IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Match Highlights | Points Table and Player of the Match: The Arun Jaitley Stadium witnessed an extraordinary display of batting prowess from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as they demolished the Delhi Capitals (DC) bowling attack! SRH, who came to bat first, played aggressively from the beginning.
The opening pair of Travis Head (89 runs from 32 balls) and Abhishek Sharma (46 runs from 12 balls) tore apart the DC bowling, putting together a record-breaking partnership of 131 runs in just 38 balls! The powerplay was a nightmare for the Capitals as SRH posted a mammoth total of 125 runs. The attack continued with valuable contributions from Nitish Kumar Reddy (37 runs off 27 balls), Shahbaz Ahmed (59 runs off 29 balls), and Abdul Samad (13 runs off 8 balls).
SRH finished their innings with a massive score of 266/7, which is the highest score in IPL history for the third time this season! Only the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav (4-55) and Axar Patel (1-29) offered some resistance for DC. The fast bowlers were clean bowled, with Mukesh Kumar taking one wicket but giving away a lot of runs.
Chasing an almost impossible target of 267, DC got off to a great start. Impressive player Prithvi Shaw hit four fours in the opening over but was dismissed cheaply by Washington Sundar. David Warner was also out early.
However, Jake Fraser-McGurk (65 off 18 balls) and Abhishek Porel (42 off 22 balls) provided a ray of hope with their aggressive innings. But Porel’s dismissal began the collapse and DC were eventually all out for 199 in 19.1 overs. T Natarajan (4-19) was the key player for SRH, taking four important wickets. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mayank Markande, Washington Sundar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar also took wickets.
This comprehensive win of 67 runs takes SRH to second place in the points table. For DC, it is a bitter pill to swallow, as they have lost their first game at home. The match highlighted the destructive power of the SRH batting line-up and the need for DC to strengthen their bowling attack, especially their pace department.

Delhi Capitals Captain Rishabh Pant: “The decision to bowl first was mainly based on the expectation of dew, which didn’t materialize. Even so, if we had limited them to 220-230, we would have had a chance.
However, their strong powerplay performance, scoring 125 runs, put us on the back foot. The ball stopped more than anticipated in the second innings, making the chase challenging.
Fraser-McGurk’s batting has been outstanding, and as a team, we need to stay united and identify areas for improvement before the next game.”
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins: “It’s always great to maintain a good record here, and today’s game was another fantastic display of cricket.
The conditions didn’t offer much to the bowlers in the powerplay, but they adapted well as the ball softened.
We’re looking forward to our batting performance, although we’ll need to bowl well in the second half. I’m pleased with the discipline shown by our bowlers; they executed their plans effectively.”
