Rohit Sharma DC VS MI
Mumbai Indians will have to find a formula for the rest of the tournament. They cannot keep mixing and matching. IMG SRC: MI

The DC VS MI clash will take place tonight (April 11). It will be a clash of the leading cities in the country. The best of the best players will lock horns. It will be great to see Prithvi Shaw, a player born and brought up in Mumbai play against the Mumbai team. But both the teams are struggling and are looking to open their victory account. The Mumbai Indians are slow starters but the DC VS MI game is a good occasion for them to open their victory account. DC on the other hand hasn’t found the right combination. Here is a look at what has held the Mumbai Indians back this season before the DC VS MI game:

DC VS MI: Failure of Senior Batters:

In the DC VS MI game, the MI batters cannot afford to fail. The team relies on the likes of Ishan Kishan, Surya, and Rohit Sharma. It is this Indian core that makes up most of the batting along with Tilak Varma. Tilak is in good form, but he needs support from Surya and Ishan. Suryakumar Yadav on the other hand has been unlucky with his dismissals. They have either been soft dismissals or unfortunate ones. He is in good form but hasn’t displayed it. The run rate in the powerplay for the Mumbai Indians is 7.9 which is another point of concern.

DC VS MI: Mumbai Indians Dealing With Injuries:

Jason Behrendorff is yet to play to his merit. He is a great bowler and can swing the ball. IMG SRC: MI

The Mumbai Indians have a really poor bowling attack. The niggle of Jofra Archer has only increased their pain. The bowling looks very weak. And going into the DC VS MI game in this position is not fruitful. The arrival of Riley Meredith can help. But still, they will lack a good death bowler. The lesser-known Indian names of Arshad Khan and Hrithik Shokeen are not doing wonders. They have not shown any impact in the ongoing games. But the MI management is smart, they never select weaker players who are not meant for the grand stage. So maybe, it’s just a matter of time.

Too Many Changes:

In the first two games, we have seen a lot of chopping and changing. Tristan Stubbs came out to bat at number 8 in the second game. A player who has the caliber to bat at number 3 or 4 is asked to bat so lower down the order. Arshad Khan was floated up as they wanted to hold back the right-handers. But that didn’t yield any fruitful results. These methods of hit and trial are not going to work on the global stage. The MI management needs to have a format and it needs to back the same for the next few games.

Suggestive Changes for the Mumbai Indians:

An important change will be to play Riley Meredith and Jofra Archer if both are present. The next one will be to use Piyush Chawla as an impact player. Cameron Green can be used as a finisher as well. He can bat alongside Tim David. At number 3 we can have a solid batter like Tilak Varma. In this case, Tilak Varma will get more time at the crease to make an impact.
