The KFC Big Bash League (BBL) is the Australian men’s professional franchise-level Twenty20 competition, which was started under the supervision of Cricket Australia in 2011. This replaced the previously held KFC Twenty20 Big Bash, which included 6 teams, while two more teams were drafted at the start of the BBL.

During the summer season in Australia, BBL is featured over the grounds of Australia, with Perth Scorchers being the most successful side in its history. Over the years, several big players have starred in the BBL, while some legendary players have been featured in the competition and have shocked everyone with their immense legacy.

Currently, Dan Christian, the assistant coach for the Sydney Thunder, recently took back to the field to fill in the shoes of their missing players due to injury. Christian, who is now 41 years and 270 days old, became the 6th oldest player to have featured in the history of the BBL.

5 Oldest Players to Have Featured in the BBL:

5. Brad Hogg

An Australian former spinner who has played all formats for his nation was the oldest player to have featured in the Big Bash League. Hogg was one of the last of his kind of bowlers, as he bowled left-arm chinaman, though most of his career was shadowed by the presence of the legendary Shane Warne.

Hogg last played for the Melbourne Renegades in 2017, when the spinner was aged 46 years and 350 days.

4. Brad Hodge

Australian batting all-rounder Hodge came down the order and was a crucial part of Australia’s batting order in the 2007 Cricket World Cup. Hodge has not played even 50 international matches for the Men in Yellow, amassing in the Sheffield Shield with 10,000+ runs.

The batter also last starred in the BBL for the Adelaide Strikers when he was 43 years and 24 days old.

3. Shane Warne

Legendary Australian leg-spinner and still one of the greatest in world cricket, the second-highest wicket-taker Shane Warne was a legendary name to feature in the BBL as well as the IPL and led them to such a win.

Warne starred only for the Melbourne Stars in his BBL career, as he last played in the 2012/13 season, with him featuring at the age of 43 years and 125 days.

2. Fawad Ahmed

The Australian leg-break bowler has played for the Aussies, while he has played for 4 different franchises in the history of the Big Bash League.

The name itself suggests all, as the great Sri Lankan spinner, often titled the ‘Wizard of the Emerald Isle,’ turned the ICC Hall of Famer with unique records when he surpassed the likes of Windies pacer Courtney Walsh for most test wickets and later climbed up in 2009 to break Wasim Akram’s record of 502 ODI wickets.

Muralitharan, who played international cricket up to 2011, aged 41 years and 280 days, last played in the BBL for the Melbourne Renegades in the final season of 2013.
