WI vs BAN: Bangladesh, the underdogs, have secured a win for the first time while playing against the West Indies on their soil, as Hasan Mahmud bowled a heroic final over to grasp a win for his side from the hard-hitting clutches of Rovman Powell.
Winning the toss and electing to bowl at Kingston, with the Bangladesh top order crashing alongside skipper Litton Das going back to the pavilion for a duck, opener Soumya Sarkar played a vital innings of 43 runs alongside the lower-middle order, including the likes of Jaker Ali, the man in form from the ODI series.
Jaker, Mahedi Hasan, and Shamim pulled off vital 75 runs for their side, which seemed to be the deciding factor as Bangladesh could put some pressure on the Windies’ order due to some runs put on the scoreboard.
The West Indies, while chasing a target of 148, struggled early and rather neverendingly, as since Johnson Charles got out after having played a small cameo of 20 runs, not a single batter looked confident until skipper Rovman Powell arrived.
Nicholas Pooran, who was retained by the IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants, seemed to be facing a sheer dip in his form, as he has been very inconsistent playing for the Windies in any of the white-ball formats.
Powell found some competence in batter no. 9. Romario Shepherd, the batter, has pulled off several stunning performances for his side, and it seemed like another one of those nights; however, Powell and Shepherd’s 67-run partnership took the West Indies to the doorstep of victory, ending with Shepherd’s wicket.
Powell, with a score of 60 runs, stayed till the final over; however, a stunning effort from Hasan Mahmud pulled off the game for the visitors, as he defended 9 runs of the final over despite having a set Powell batting against him. Eventually, Bangladesh won their first-ever T20I on West Indies soil by 7 runs.
