IPL 2024: Hardik Pandya set to Join Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans: One of the biggest trade of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is almost confirmed; Gujarat Titans Skipper Hardik Pandya will join Mumbai Indians for IPL 2024. There is an undisclosed amount of deal has been done between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. As per the reports of Espncricinfo, Hardik Pandya will get half of the transfer fee in this trade.
This will be the first time in history that the IPL-winning captain will move to another franchise. Hardik Pandya is taking a salary of around 15 crore, and to get him into the team, Mumbai Indians need a purse of 15.00 crore, which they don’t have so far.
Mumbai Indians have a purse of 0.05 crore from the last auction, and All teams will get an additional 5 crore purse for the IPL 2024 Auction, but MI still needs 10 crore to get Hardik Pandya in their team for IPL 2024.
Mumbai Indians are expected to release some of their big players to get high purse value. Jofra Archer and Cameron Green are the players who are expected to be released ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction.
Cameron Green was bought by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023 Auction at a price of 17.50 crore, which made him the second most expensive foreign player in IPL, whereas Jofra Archer was bought by MI at a price of 8.00 crore in the IPL 2022 Auction.
Hardik Pandya or Rohit Sharma, who will lead Mumbai Indians?
As per the reports, Rohit Sharma will lead the Mumbai Indians for one or two seasons, and then after, Hardik Pandya will be the permanent captain of the Mumbai Indians. Some of the reports also claimed that Rohit Sharma would play under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, but it seems unreal, and most likely, it is not going to happen.
Hardik Pandya joined the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025, and he won four titles with MI in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. Before the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, Hardik Pandya was picked by Gujarat Titans, and he was offered the leadership role for the team.
As Rohit Sharma is now in the end phase of his cricketing career, Mumbai Indians want someone who can lead MI effectively in the upcoming years like Rohit did for the past 10 years.
