Captain Rohit Sharma’s name has now been recorded for playing the most T20 International matches.

The right-handed batsman played the 127th T20 International of his career in the second T20I against England at Edgbaston on Saturday.

But after being included in the playing XI in the first two T20Is of the three-match series against England, Rohit has now taken his lead.

Rohit has now surpassed Australian all-rounder Alyssa Parry and New Zealand all-rounder Suzy Bates’ record of 126 matches to play the most T20 Internationals. Before Rohit, both of them had the record of playing the most T20 International matches in both men’s and women’s cricket.

The 5-year-old Indian batsman Rohit is also the highest run-scorer in the history of men’s T20 International cricket. He has so far scored 3368 runs in 119 innings of 127 matches.

He has four centuries to his name, as well as 26 half-centuries. Rohit is currently the second cricketer to score the most T20 International runs in both men and women.

New Zealand all-rounder Suzy Bates is on top with 3380 runs in 123 innings of 126 matches. If Rohit scores 13 or more runs in the third T20I against England on Sunday, he will become the highest run-scorer in both the men’s and women’s categories, leaving behind Suzy Bates.

After the men’s cricket, former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik is second with 124 matches and all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez is at number three with 119 matches. Both the cricketers were part of the Pakistan team in the last ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Rohit was a member of the Indian team that won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007. In his long career spanning 15 years, he holds the record for playing most matches and scoring most runs.
