MS Dhoni, the face of the Chennai Super Kings, also known as “Thala”, is likely to miss the first game of TATA IPL 2023. This update comes after MS Dhoni suffered an injury in his left knee while training with the Chennai Super Kings squad. He was present for the team captains’ photoshoot in Ahmedabad. He was also seen practicing but did not hit the nets with the bat. The reason and the seriousness of the issue are unclear. But, surely, MSD had some discomfort in his knee. Here is an in-depth look:

MS Dhoni is likely to miss the first game of the TATA IPL 2023. The Chennai Super Kings will be coming into the IPL with a point to prove. The men in yellow ended second-last on the points table last season.

They managed to get only 4 victories and were just better than their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians, who had finished last. The season opener takes place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. All eyes were waiting for MS Dhoni to walk out to bat. But there seems to be a little delay in this visual. MS Dhoni is unlikely to lead the Super Kings in the first game. He has faced a small niggle with his left knee.

MS Dhoni Will Play, Says Chennai CEO:

The CEO of the Chennai Super Kings stated the PTI. He said, “As far as I am concerned, the skipper is 100 percent playing. I don’t know about any other development.” But if MS Dhoni misses, then the wicket-keeping role can be handed to either Devon Conway or Ambati Rayudu. Even Ruturaj Gaikwad can keep wickets if required. The skipper’s role can be given to Ravindra Jadeja, Ben Stokes, or Gaikwad. Ben Stokes is less likely to be the captain in MS Dhoni’s absence as he has had his share of injuries as well. But Jadeja also has a visible rift after last year’s fallout with the CSK management.

Mukesh Choudhary Replacement Announced:

Akash Singh TATA IPL 2023

Another development is that the Chennai Super Kings have announced the replacement of Mukesh Choudhary. Mukesh Choudhary is not available for the TATA IPL as he is at the NCA for a rehabilitation program. He had a back injury due to which he missed the entire domestic season. The injury has resulted in him missing out on the TATA IPL 2023 too. But the Chennai Super Kings have finally announced a replacement.

The replacement announced is Akash Singh. Akash was earlier associated with the Rajasthan Royals in TATA IPL. Akash played one game against the Chennai Super Kings in TATA IPL 2022. He went unsold in the IPL Auction 2023. But the scouts had his name with them and went back to him in absence of Mukesh. He is a left-arm pacer too and is a “like-to-like” replacement. As of now, Akash has played 9 T20s so far and has picked 7 wickets.
