The Mumbai Indians’ bowling seems to be their talking point this TATA IPL 2023. The team has always had a great set of batters. But bowling is the general unit that has let them down. Last season, they finished 8th in the TATA IPL because their bowling, as well as batting units, failed. But they have reinstated their bowling attack.
They have bought in fresher faces this season. They let go of the likes of Tymal Mills, Daniel Sams, and Riley Meredith. The Mumbai Indians instead bought in Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendorff. In a recent pre-season interview, the Mumbai Indians coach Mark Boucher said that their bowling is going to be a “surprise package”. Here is an in-depth look:

The Mumbai Indians coach Mark Boucher has added to the spice of the TATA IPL 2023. In the pre-season build-up during a press conference, this is what Boucher said, “Losing Bumrah has been a big loss for us, I’ll be honest with that. But by losing a player sometimes you get the opportunity. The way Mumbai Indians have selected their squads over the last few years has been…how you select your playing XI and then your backup XI and then you invest in a couple of youngsters for the future. It’s now time for those youngsters to show up and get the opportunities.”
Boucher focused on the point of investing in youngsters. The first name that comes to mind, in this case, is that of Mohammed Arshad Khan. The Mumbai Indians family has invested a lot in his fitness and his career. Arshad Khan missed the entire season last year, but they did not cut his fee. He was out due to injury and all his expenses were covered by them too.
The MI Bowling is a “Surprise Package”:
Mark Boucher further added, “The IPL is a massive event and it’s going to be a great opportunity for some of our young boys to show up. We’ve got some great variation in our bowling attack; I think our batting is very very strong. But our bowling is almost going to be a surprise package.”
The Mumbai Indians’ bowling does have a lot of experience in the form of Jason Behrendorff and Jofra Archer. Piyush Chawla brings that to the spin department. But they still have a void in the place or two. This void will have to be filled by a young player. The three youngsters in the pace bowling department are Arshad Khan, Akash Madhwal, and Arjun Tendulkar. Arjun had a small niggle when he joined the Mumbai Indians squad earlier this month.
