TATA IPL 2024 Lucknow Super Giants vs Gujarat Titans Match No. 21 Highlights | Player of the Match & Points Table: The Indian Premier League 2024 Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans face each other in an exciting 21st match at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
LSG bowlers did not give any chance to Joints batsmen to handle and thus Lucknow bowlers remained dominant. Won their first win by a margin of 33 runs thanks to a brilliant half-century from Marcus Stoinis and brilliant bowling performance from Yash Thakur and Krunal Pandya.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, LSG posted a competitive total of 163/5 thanks to a strong half-century from Stoinis and valuable contributions from KL Rahul (33) and Nicholas Pooran (32*). In reply, GT started strong with 54 runs in the powerplay, but the momentum changed when Thakur dismissed Gill for 19.
LSG’s spinners, Ravi Bishnoi and Krunal Pandya then took control, taking four wickets between them. Thakur’s return to the attack was brilliant, he performed brilliantly in the final moments, taking five wickets and leading LSG to a resounding win.
Lucknow Super Giants Captain KL Rahul:
“We’ll take the win, I am not going to make too much out of it. I think for the young bowling group that we have, it helps when we bat first and they get a bit of an idea of how the wicket’s playing and they’ve also been adapting really well. [On 100% record of defending 160+ total] Yeah, it’s a good record to have, obviously.
But I also think it’s because of where we’ve played and the conditions. Last time we played here in Lucknow, the wickets were very low-scoring, and it’s a low-scoring ground. So, we defended quite well there.
Having that home advantage obviously helps a little bit. And yes, I mean, the bowlers have come through the ranks in the last couple of years. You’ve seen the same guys playing last season as well, and they’ve adjusted to their roles.
They’re reading the wickets really well. That’s something that I try to discuss with them a lot more off the field and even during practice.
Gujarat Titans Captain Shubman Gill:
“I think it was a good wicket to bat on, to be honest. It was just a really poor batting performance from us. We got a decent start but we lost it in the middle overs and we were never able to get back to momentum or we were never able to recover from that.
To restrict them to 160 on a wicket like this was impressive. We were expecting them to score around 175-180, but to limit them to 160 was a tremendous effort by the bowlers. Our batters let us down.
Talking about Miller, he’s the kind of player who can change the game for you anytime. We had a couple of hinges in this game, but irrespective of that, this total was very gettable for us.
I thought it was the last over of the power play. We got off to a decent start. I just wanted to capitalize on the last over of the power play. With everyone up on the offside, I wanted to give myself a bit of room.
As for the ball I got out to, I was actually trying to play it a bit square, but I missed it. He’s (Umesh Yadav) someone who’s very experienced, and even Darshan, the way our bowlers bowled in this game, as I’ve already mentioned, was tremendous to watch. They got off to a decent start, and to restrict them to around 160-165 runs was what we were hoping for.”
LSG vs GT Player of The Match: Yash Thakur
I am happy for the first 5-wicket haul and first player of the match award. I saw Gill trying to make some room and hit in the leg side as there were 2 fielders behind square. Rahul bhai told me to bowl at my plan.
Unfortunate to lose Mayank bhai but the skipper told me that its your day and you will win us the game. Last 2 seasons we never won against them so very happy to win against them today. Shubman’s wicket was the most special one.”
