IPL 2025: Zaheer Khan has been approached by Lucknow Super Giants for mentorship. The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) still has 5-6 months to go. The mega auction is scheduled to take place in 2025, where all ten teams can only retain limited players.
Others will come under the hammer. Not just players; a number of franchises will look to make necessary changes to their coaching staff. That’s where the role of mentor for LSG is still open.
Gautam Gambhir, who worked as mentor for the franchise in 2022 and 2023, stepped down ahead of 2024. Since then, the post is still vacant. Meanwhile, Morne Morkel, who was with the franchise as bowling coach, also left the franchise with Gambhir.
Zaheer Khan is in talks with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as mentor for IPL 2025
Since Gambhir, LSG is targeting another legend in the IPL 2025. As per the report by Cricbuzz, Zaheer Khan is in talks with the franchise. According to Cricbuzz, Zaheer will not just work as mentors but also as a bowling coach. He already had a superb CV as a coaching staff member in the IPL.
Zaheer Khan was with Mumbai Indians for a long time period and worked with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult. His ability to groom young bowlers into match-winning bowlers can play a big role between the franchise and players for LSG.
Zaheer Khan was even considered for the role of bowling coach for Team India, with Gambhir as head coach. But Morkel got that role and will be joining the Indian team. The deal between the former pacer and the franchise is in the negotiation round.
If the deals can get done, then Zaheer Khan will join a strong coaching group which has Justin Langer as head coach and Lance Klusener, Adam Voges, and Jonty Rhodes as assistant coaches. Zaheer is one of the best Indian pacers of all time, having represented the country in 92 Tests, 200 ODIs, and 17 T20Is. He has retired with 610 international wickets.
