IPL 2024 Points Table: The Defending Champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won the match against Punjab Kings by 28 runs at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala in the match no.53 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. It was a crucial victory for CSK and with this, they moved to the 3rd position in the latest IPL 2024 Points Table with 12 points. CSK has played a total of 11 matches so far in this tournament and out of which, they won six games and now, Chennai Super Kings have an excellent net run rate of +0.700.
Chennai Super Kings batted first but they had a decent start due to the slow wicket of Dharamshala, however, Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell made a small but crucial partnership for the 2nd wicket. Gaikwad scored 32 runs in 21 balls whereas Mitchell scored 30 runs in 19 balls, these batters could have played quite aggressive cricket but a slow and low bounce surface helps bowlers a lot.
After the powerplay, CSK’s middle order collapsed against PBKS Pacer Harshal Patel and spinner Rahul Chahar but Ravindra Jadeja played a crucial knock of 43 runs in just 26 balls and led Chennai Super Kings to a defendable score of 167 runs with the loss of nine wickets. From PBKS, Harshal Patel and Rahul Chahar took three wickets each whereas Arshdeep Singh got two wickets.
In the second inning, Punjab Kings came to chase the target but they had worse conditions than CSK as their top and middle-order batters failed to score runs. Prabhsimran Singh and Shawshank Singh scored 30 and 27 runs, respectively and they were the only batters from the PBKS side to score 20+ runs in this match.
From Chennai Super Kings, Ravindra Jadeja was the star player of the match as firstly, he played a fantastic inning with bat and then took three crucial wickets with the ball. Tushar Deshpande and Simarjeet Singh also got two wickets in this match against Punjab Kings.
