IPL 2024: Journey of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) From 2008-2024 in the IPL | How CSK Becomes Five-Times Champions? Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is one of the most successful franchises in the TATA IPL so far as they have won five IPL Trophies from 2008 to 2023. CSK are the defending champions as they defeated Gujarat Titans in the TATA IPL 2023 by five wickets at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Chennai Super Kings is known for its consistent performance, strong leadership and electrifying fan base. Their Journey in the Indian Premier League (IPL) spanning over 16 years (2008-2024) has been fabulous, especially under the leadership of MS Dhoni, who built this franchise from the very beginning. Now, Dhoni is passing all his legacy to youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is the current skipper of CSK in the TATA IPL 2024.

A Beginning Era: Building Chennai Super Kings (CSK):

In 2008, When IPL started, which was known as DLF IPL, Chennai Super Kings signed MS Dhoni as their skipper and he led CSK to the Finals but lost the match against Rajasthan Royals by 3 wickets. It was a great start by CSK in the very first season of IPL and T20 cricket was envolving at that time.

In 2009, Chennai Super Kings reached to semi-finals but they lost the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 6 wickets. However, CSK was playing good cricket but they failed to win the pressure games which MS Dhoni and CSK’s team management improved in the next season. Therefore, Chennai Super Kings won two back-to-back trophies in 2010 and 2011.

But the winning streak came to an end as CSK lost the IPL 2012 Final match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 5 wickets. After that, Chennai qualified for the Playoffs but they failed to win the title.

A Setback to CSK [2016-2017]

After having such a wonderful performance over the years in the Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings was banned by the IPL organizing committee. Both CSK and RR were banned for two years for the spot-fixing and betting activities in the IPL which was not legal.

A Continuing Success:

Despite being banned for two years, CSK fans stood with the franchise primarily because of legendary Skipper MS Dhoni. But, It was not a full spot by CSK, they started their new journey with a victory in the IPL 2018 and then, CSK never looked back. After this, they had quite a decent season but Chennai again won two more titles (2021 and 2023).
