IPL 2024: Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who have won five IPL titles and are one of the most successful teams in the IPL history will be playing the opening match of the upcoming season of Indian Premier League. Chennai has always been known to utilize the maximum of the players they have added to the team however, this year CSK have gone for some quality overseas players to strengthen their batting line-up.
But, Chennai Super Kings two-star players Devon Conway and Matheesha Pathirana, who have performed exceptionally for CSK in the IPL 2023 are set to miss the IPL 2024. This setbacks led CSK’s team management to have changes in their expected Playing XI.
Chennai Super Kings will be playing their first match of IPL 2024 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. CSK are the defending champions as they won the IPL 2023 Final against Gujarat Titans by 5 Wickets at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Cricket Analyst and Commentator Harsha Bhogle reveals his opening pair for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2024. However, CSK’s regular opening pair has been Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who have played superb cricket and given an excellent start to their team.
Both these batters have jointly scored 1208 runs in 22 innings at a strike rate of 150.4 which shows their fantastic performance in the last two seasons. The Opening Pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway have an average of 54.9 which is one the highest among other teams in the Indian Premier League.
But, due to injury, Devon Conway will not be available for the IPL 2024 therefore Rachin Ravindra is expected to take charge of the position of Conway in the IPL 2024. Chennai Super Kings bought Rachin Ravindra in the IPL 2024 Auction for 1.8 crores and it is expected that he will give the same performances as Conway was giving to his team.
Rachin Ravindra has played 20 T20I matches so far and scored 214 runs at a strike rate of 133.8 however he played superb cricket in the last couple of months for New Zealand.
Harsha Bhogle said, “In the absence of Devon Conway, there is, What I believe, a like-to-like replacement even though they are vastly different in terms of year and experience. I won’t be surprised at all if, in CSK, Rachin Ravindra comes out and tells the IPL, ‘Come look at me’, because he has done very well in the white-ball cricket.”
“He has gone up and got 100 in test match cricket. He’s playing the best cricket of his life and he’s playing in a wonderful environment at CSK. So, my opening pair will be Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra.”
