India vs England Test Series 2025

India vs England: The upcoming series, which will be played between India and England from the 20th of June, will be the first series of this new WTC cycle, which will be played from 2025 to 2027.

The India vs England series was named the ‘Pataudi Trophy’ back in 2007 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the inaugural test match played between these two nations, which took place at Lord’s back in 1932.

India vs England: ECB and BCCI has stated that trophy renaming is no respect to Pataudi Legacy

As reported by the Board of Cricket from both the participating nations, India and England, Boria Majumdar has said that the ECB and BCCI have no intention to disrespect the legacy of the Pataudi family. It is clear and sound that the trophy might have a new name, but the Pataudi name will remain associated with the India-England Test series.

The modernization of the trophy made recently included the names of two of the greatest players of the modern generation, Jimmy Anderson from England and Sachin Tendulkar from India; however, this tribute to the two greats is not meant to demean the stature of the Pataudis in Indian cricket.

Who were the Pataudi’s?

Pataudi’s legacy in Indian cricket

The legacy of the Pataudi family started back with the great Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, the Indian great and the first ever Indian player to play for both nations, England and then India, in the decade of the 1930s-40s.

Later his son, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, a former Indian skipper, had led India in over 40 test matches and was one of the first captains for independent India. The batter was one of the first Indian players to have made it to a Division 1 county side, as he played for Sussex. Both of these were considered the epitome of establishing the gentleman’s game in India.

India vs England: Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy to be Unveiled at WTC Final

Likely visions from the inauguration of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy

According to reports from the BBC, the newly renamed India vs England Test trophy has been named the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and not the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy. Moreover, the two greats Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson are likely to be present during the World Test Championship Final at Lord’s on the 11th of June. The trophy is expected to be unveiled by the two greats on the occasion of the third WTC final, featuring Australia and South Africa at Lord’s.

Tendulkar and Anderson have faced each other on 14 occasions before in their decades-long test careers, as the ‘Master Blaster’ scored 208 runs against the world-class bowler, and in return Anderson has been the most successful paceman to have dismissed the master batter 9 times in tests, the most by a single bowler in Tendulkar’s test career.
