
Currently, the modern greats for India and England, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and bowling maestro from England Jimmy Anderson, have been added to the list of veterans as the India vs England test series has been named the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy from 2025. Cricket has been a game for centuries now, and several greats have given the modern-day status to the game. Great players like Viv Richards, Sunil Gavaskar, Allan Border, and Sir Garfield Sobers have been awarded such honours as named bilateral trophies between the two nations.
Earlier known as the Pataudi Trophy, England and India have featured in over 50 such series in red-ball cricket history. The Tendulkar-Anderson series will be played between India and England starting on the 20th of June in the new WTC cycle of 2025-27.

Bilateral trophies named after famous cricketers:
1. Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is played between India and Australia and named after the two greatest players from the nation, Sunil Gavaskar and Allan Border, for India and Australia, respectively. It started back in 1996-97 after the two greats retired from the longest format of the game.
2. Chappell-Hadlee Trophy
Another series was played between the great Aussies and their neighbouring archrivals, New Zealand. The two greatest cricket families from the two nations, the Chappell family and the Hadlee family, while Greg Chappell and Richard Hadlee were the greatest against whose names this trophy was named. It was started back in 2004-05.
3. Sobers-Tissera Trophy
Named after the two greatest, Sir Garfield Sobers from the West Indies and Michael Tissera from Sri Lanka, it was incepted back in 2021 and is placed between the two nations, the West Indies and Sri Lanka, as it replaced the Wisden Trophy.
4. Clive Lloyd Trophy
The Clive Lloyd Trophy has been played between the West Indies and the Zimbabwe side, as it has been named after the former West Indies skipper Clive Lloyd, as it was incepted back in 2001.
5. Frank Worrell Trophy
Played between Australia and the West Indies in the longest format of the game, it is named after Sir Frank Worrell, the greatest ever Black captain for the West Indies. It was incepted back in the 1960s.
6. Warne-Muralitharan Trophy

Started back in 2007-08, named after the two greatest spinners in world cricket from the two participating teams, Sri Lanka and Australia. Shane Warne and Muralitharan were the face of this trophy in test cricket.
7. Richards-Botham Trophy

It started back in 2021 and was named after the two greatest players in world cricket from the two participating teams, the West Indies and England. Vivian Richards and Sir Ian Botham have been honoured as the faces of this trophy in test cricket.
8. Crowe-Thorpe Trophy
Named after New Zealand great Martin Crowe and Graham Thorpe from England, the trophy was incepted last year in 2024, as it was named to honour the two greatest middle-order batters from the two nations.
9. Benaud-Qadir Trophy
Another Australian player whose name has been used in the aspect of a trophy between two participating nations, Australia and Pakistan. The great Abdul Qadir from Pakistan and Richie Benaud were honored with this trophy, incepted in 2022.
10. Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy
Named after modern-day greats Jimmy Anderson and the great Sachin Tendulkar, the India vs England test series has been named the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, replacing the Pataudi Trophy. This is a great initiative by the ECB and the BCCI to honour the two legends from the greatest Test nations.
