The Champions Trophy 2025 is being held for the first time since 2017, when its last season was played in Australia, as India and Pakistan ended as finalists. India last won the Champions Trophy in 2013 but could not defend their title in 2017 against their arch-rivals.
After much controversy, India has been confirmed by the ICC, as well as the PCB, that their matches will be moved to Dubai, while Pakistan remains the host of the competition. Scheduled to begin on the 19th of February, the CT will feature 8 teams, which includes Afghanistan for the first time, making their debut in the CT.
The Indian selectors have several huge decisions to be made ahead of the Champions Trophy, as Indian players have significantly lost form in the longer white-ball format; thus, the England ODIs will be very vital from India’s point of view.
India’s Predicted Squad for CT 2025:
India might seek their senior players for one last time in the ICC tournament, as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are about to play their final ICC tournament, as the two players might not be available in 2027 for the next Cricket World Cup.
Alongside the senior veterans, they will also include the likes of India’s promising next-generation superstars like Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer, who for now will gear up to strengthen their position in the Indian side.
Though India is now doubtful over the participation of their ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, there are reports of Mohammed Shami and Mohammad Siraj acing India’s pace attack, while the likes of Varun Chakravarthy are also in line for the Champions Trophy, though he has never played a match in the format before this.
Indian rising talents Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Kumar Reddy have also been reported to play in the England series if they are to be considered for the Champions Trophy in 2025.
India’s Possible 18-member Squad for Champions Trophy 2025:
Openers: Rohit Sharma [C], Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal
Middle-Order Batters: Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer
Wicketkeepers: KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Sanju Samson

Bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah/Prasidh Krishna [depending on availability], Mohammed Shami, Mohammad Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Varun Chakravarthy
In this team, Washington Sundar, Sanju Samson, and Varun Chakravarthy might act as the reserve players switching in as per requirements.
