Borussia Dortmund is one of the best clubs in Europe. This German Club has established its name in the history books with several iconic performances over the years. One can always reminisce about the lovely matches and the amazing players associated with the club. From Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to Marco Reus, from Lewandowski to Mat Hummels. The club has been hosting several German legendary footballers. Every matchday, the Signal Iduna Park is lit up with the fans and their passion. Here is a look at the top players to play for the club: – 

5) Stefan Reuter: – 

Stefan Reuter is unquestionably one of the best center backs to have ever taken the field for Dortmund. He was a star in the yellow and black of the Dortmund-based side. From1992 to 2004 Stefan went on to play 307 recorded games for Borussia. He found the back of the net only 11 times but it was his defensive work that caught the eye. Reuter played as a defensive midfielder and at times as a make-shift right midfielder as well. Stefan was a player with a good vision and attacking abilities.  

His vision gave him the added advantage of predicting the passage of plays. He had a good 50-50 tackle ratio as well. His aerial game was an incentive too. A strong authoritative figure on the field, Reuter is a legend for Borussia Dortmund. He currently is the manager of the German Team FC Augsburg. The list of honors is as follows: –

4) Manfred Burgsmüller: – 

Back in the day, Manfred Burgsmüllers was one of the biggest names to be associated with Borussia Dortmund. This German striker had achieved a special place in the heart of fans of BVB. Standing at approx. 5ft 10 inches, Manfred Burgsmüller was a towering figure on the field. Playing from 1976 to 1983 Manfred played 224 games. In these recorded games he found the back of the net 135 times. His skillset was unmatched during his era. Burgsmüller had good running and sprinting abilities that allowed him to rush to the ball. His ball control and ball work gave him the upper hand as well.  

Be it the simplest of tap-in goals, a decisive header, or a screamer that would be scored out of the box, Manfred could do it all. Here is a look at the list of his achievements with Borussia Dortmund: –

3) Michael Zorc: – 

Michael Zorc is one player who spent his entire footballing career at Borussia Dortmund. Zorc played from 1981 to 1998. He appeared in 463 recorded games and scored 131 goals. Michael Zorc is the greatest midfielder to play for Borussia Dortmund. Mike and Marco Reus are often compared to each other. Just comparing Michael Zorc with any other individual is not justice to his legacy. Zorc on his day could flip the game on its head. He was the one who held the central midfield together. He was a good and patient penalty taker as well. It was in his presence that Borussia Dortmund became the Champions of Europe as well.

2) Matthias Sammer: – 

Matthias Sammer is one player who did not have a very long career at Borussia Dortmund but his career was impactful. Sammer played from 1993 to 1998. In this period of 5 years, he played 115 games and scored 21 goals. The goals don’t justify the legacy left behind by Sammer as a defensive midfielder and a sweeper. He is said to be the pioneer of the idea of a football team having a sweeper. He involved a strong work ethic with the club. Matthias Sammer before coming to the Bundesliga had previously played for Milan. He brought in the family culture within the football team.

1) Jurgen Kohler: – 

Jurgen Kohler and Matthias Sammer could have been number 1. Now it’s up to the editor about who he chooses. Both played similar positions. Sammer was more of a midfielder but Kohler was the more defensive one. He was an integral part of the Borussia Dortmund team that won the Champions League. Jurgen Kohler was a very disciplined and lovable individual. The fans were in love with the passion and charisma that Jurgen had for the game.
