Rahul Raju Scores Brace As Bengaluru regular Winning Streak In RF Development League With 5-0 Win In Goa

Naushad Moosa’s Bengaluru FC B side continued their winning run in the Reliance Foundation Development League with a 5-0 win over Mumbai City FC, in Nagoa, on Thursday. Three first-half goals from Lastborn Mawphniang (5’) and Rahul Raju (17’, 45’) were added to by goals from Gautam Virwani (OG, 77’) and Robin Yadav (87’) as the Blue Colts consolidated their place at the top of the standings.

Previously, Bengaluru made three changes to their Starting XI with Dipesh Chauhan, Omega Vanlalhruaitluanga and Fanai Lalremtluanga replacing Sharon Padattil, Rakesh Meitei and Sivasakthi Narayanan.

It took only five minutes for the Blue Colts to get the back of the net as Namgyal Bhutia’s throw-in found Bekey Oram, who carried the ball down the flank and into the final third. The midfielder’s low cross fell for Lastborn, who was there to slot it beyond Bishal Lama in the Mumbai goal.

Only twelve minutes later, Bengaluru doubled their lead when Lastborn intercepted a pass and charged forward before finding Rahul. Unmarked with the goal at his mercy, the striker tapped home with ease to score his fourth goal in as many games.

Rahul continued to be a menace in the box and scored his second just before the break when Amay Morajkar combined with Bekey in the final third. Bekey’s lofted pass for the striker was volleyed into the top corner as the sides went into the break with the score at 3-0.

Into the second period, BFC pushed for more and found their fourth through an own goal from Virwani. Emboklang’s shot was parried by the Lama, only for Rakesh to attempt on the rebound. Virwani, in his attempt to block away, saw the ball deflect off his frame and find the back of the net.

Robin Yadav grabbed Bengaluru FC’s fifth and final goal to seal a comfortable victory for the Blue Colts, who stay atop the RF Development League table with 12 points on the board. They next face Chennaiyin FC, on May 3rd, in Benaulim.
