Barcelona might consider free agent De Gea’s move this summer: Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea has been a free agent since he left Manchester United last summer. Initially, he had accepted the terms of a new contract at Old Trafford, but the club later withdrew the offer and attempted to propose a revised agreement with reduced wages. Consequently, the Spaniard opted to depart after dedicating 12 years to the club.

Last summer, De Gea was in negotiations for a potential transfer to Real Madrid, the arch-rivals of Barcelona, following Thibaut Courtois’ ACL injury.

However, instead of pursuing De Gea, Real Madrid opted to secure Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea. This time, Barcelona is in talks for a possible move this summer and De Gea might find his new destination soon.

According to reports from Mund Deportivo, Barcelona might be signing the Spanish goalkeeper in order to boost their inexperienced goalkeeping department.

After the back injury of  Barca’s present goalkeeper, Ter Stegen, who was out of the first team due to an operation, has been back recently and has featured in the last three matches for Barca.

If De Gea were to join Barcelona, it appears he might need to accept a backup role, but it remains uncertain if he finds that prospect appealing at this point in his career.

But at the age of 33, the seasoned Spanish goalkeeper has attracted attention from multiple teams in both England and Saudi Arabia. However, it is estimated that De Gea is leaning towards staying in Spain for the next phase of his career.

Barcelona has been closely looking into De Gea and their present financial crisis might end up being a strategic move for De Gea who’s been a free agent since last summer.

The former Manchester United goalkeeper might serve as a backup goalkeeper since Barcelona is currently under the services of Marc Andre Ter Stegen.

De Gea is no stranger to La Liga, having played 57 matches for Atletico Madrid during the early years of his career. He will be beneficial for the Barcelona side, as his experience will be of great use in improving the current situation in Barcelona.
