WPL 2024: Women’s Primer League Match No.17h Result and Points Table: The exciting journey continues in the Tata Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024. Yesterday, on Sunday, in the match Delhi Capitals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 17th match of the Tata Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, they won by 1 run in a thrilling match on the last ball.

Toss and Delhi Capitals batting

The Delhi Capitals had earlier chosen to bat first after winning the toss. Thanks to the strength of Shafali Verma and the intelligence of Meg Lanning, the home team got off to a terrific start. After a half-century partnership for the first wicket, DC finished the powerplay with a score of 53/0.

Following the powerplay, Asha Shobhana was brought into the attack, and right-arm spinner Shafali Verma provided RCB with their first breakthrough.

One success led to another for the visitors as Shreyanka Patil trapped Meg Lanning out LBW in the 9th over. The Delhi Capitals’ score at the halfway mark was 84/2 as Alice Capsey and Jemimah Rodrigues carried forward the solid momentum created by the openers.

Some trademark sweeps and cut shots boosted the confidence of both batsmen as a fifty-run partnership was established for the second wicket.

While Alice Capsey continued to rotate the strike from one end, Jemimah Rodrigues brought up her half-century with a stylish maximum at deep extra cover.

After this, Capsie had to move forward as DC had reached 150 runs with 3 overs remaining. Shreyanka led RCB’s fightback with three quick wickets, including the crucial breakthroughs of Rodrigues (58) and Capsey (48). The RCB spinner gave up just 5 runs in the final over, as DC reached 181/5 in the first inning.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Run Chase

It all came down to the last ball as the Delhi Capitals successfully defended 180 in front of the home crowd despite a brilliant half-century from Richa Ghosh.

Sophie Molineux was the new opening partner for Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Smriti Mandhana as they chased 182 for two vital runs.

Alice Capsey struck hard early on as Smriti Mandhana was out LBW in the second over. Ellyse Perry joined hands with Sophie Molineux as RCB reached 42/1 at the end of the powerplay.

The Australian pair batted steadily and crossed the fifty-run mark for the second wicket. Just two balls after the RCB batsman was out to long-off, Shikha Pandey’s sharp fielding ended Ellyse Perry’s inning of 49 runs.

In the very next over, Sophie Molineux was caught by Jemimah Rodrigues off the ball of Arundhati Reddy. Sophie Devine brought RCB back into the match by scoring 17 runs in the 15th over bowled by Radha Yadav.

The visitors needed 45 runs in the last four, with Sophie Devine and Richa Ghosh at full strength. Marizanne Kapp came to DC’s rescue by dismissing Sophie Devine for 26 runs.

When 11 runs were needed in the last over, Richa Ghosh hit two sixes to bring the equation to 2 for 1. However, the RCB batsman was run out on the last ball and the home team secured a narrow victory by 1 run.

WPL 2024 Points table

Last season’s champion of the Women’s Premier League, Harmanpreet’s team was the table topper in Season 2 as well, but due to Delhi winning by 1 run in Sunday’s match no. 17 in a thrilling match between Delhi and Balure, they are currently the table topper in 5 out of 7 matches. After achieving the win, he is the table topper with 10 points.

Currently two teams, the Delhi Capitals, have qualified from the first position and Mumbai Indians from the second position. The remaining two contenders, Mandhana’s team will qualify at number three and Alyssa Healy’s team UP WARRIORZ will qualify at number four and the Gujarat team, which is running at the bottom of the table, missed a special performance this season due to which the team will be out of the race.
