World Cup 2023: In the 14th match of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Australia and Sri Lanka will play on the ground of Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow and the toss has been tossed. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat and Australia will field with their strong bowling line-up.

After starting the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 with two losses each, both champions Australia and Sri Lanka will be looking to get their campaign back on track with much-needed wins.

Both Australia and Sri Lanka are in danger of losing touch with their leaders after starting their Cricket World Cup campaigns with two defeats each.

Whichever team loses this high-stakes clash could be on the brink of missing out on a semi-final spot, with three defeats (and one no-result point) taking Pakistan out on net run-rate in the 2019 edition. It is adequate.

Man of the Match:

Five-time champions Australia have concerns throughout their line-up as several batsmen are yet to produce a solid innings in two attempts, and questions remain over the selection of the three frontline quicks.

Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and captain Pat Cummins have made an impact occasionally, but it has not been enough to limit the opposition batsmen in the defeats to India and South Africa.

Sri Lanka has their own concerns, especially with captain Dasun Shanaka ruled out of the remainder of the Cricket World Cup due to injury.

Shanaka suffered an injury during the defeat to Pakistan and will be out for at least three weeks, dealing a blow to Sri Lanka’s progress hopes.

Fellow all-rounder Chamika Karunaratnehas has been included in the squad, while vice-captain Kusal Mendis is expected to take charge in the crucial clash with Australia

World Cup 2023: Australia’s main player Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell

The dynamic all-rounder has overcome injury and has become key to Australia’s hopes of reaching the final of the tournament.

While Maxwell is more renowned for his power-hitting than handy off-spin, the lack of specialist spinners in Australia has meant the veteran has been bowled more balls than usual to deal with dry decks in India.

The 35-year-old took on the additional responsibility of taking an impressive 0/33 against India and was Australia’s best bowler in the loss to South Africa, taking 2/34.

Maxwell has not been spectacular with the bat so far, but he has a track record of delivering devastating blows to the bowlers and will need to impress with both bat and ball if the five-time champions are to reach the late semi-finals.

World Cup 2023: Sri Lanka main player Sadira Samarawickrama

The Sri Lankan batsman is in tremendous form after scoring his maiden ODI century against Pakistan and helping his team post a strong score of 344.

It wasn’t enough to stop Pakistan, but the 28-year-old showed he will be vital to Sri Lanka’s hopes of making an impact in the tournament, especially with captain Dasun Shanaka now sidelined.

The right-handed batsman also donned the gloves behind the stumps against Pakistan when Kusal Mendis suffered cramps after scoring his first century of the match.

Sri Lanka may ask Samarawickrama to do so again when they face Australia, provided it is ensured that Mendis is fresh to focus on captaincy and batting first.
