Rohit Sharma DC VS MI

The Mumbai Indians are always in the news. Be it their success over the years or their failure in a season or to. Whatever the Mumbai Indians do, they do it in style. However, Mumbai Indians couldn’t get the momentum going for themselves in IPL 2021. The team is filled with Superstars. Pollard, Rohit, Pandyas, and Jasprit Bumrah! Add to it the likes of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav. But yet, the team failed to make it to the Playoffs this year in IPL 2021. Here are a few things that went wrong for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021: –

Playing Games at Chennai in The First Leg of IPL 2021: –

The Mumbai Indians is a squad that heavily depends on the ball coming on the bat. Their batsmen like a pacing wicket to bat on. Pollard, Pandya brothers and even Rohit Sharma can play their shots well on a fast wicket in which the ball comes on to the bat. The Chennai Chidambaram wicket was not that the Mumbai Indians favored. The wicket was slow as ever and the ball was not coming on the bat.

Mumbai had to repeatedly change their batting order in order to score on the Chennai pitch.

The situation was the same for all the teams who played at Chennai as the average total at this wicket was 135-140. Mumbai had their first 5 games in Chennai and it has possibly cost them a spot in the playoffs.

Slow Starters Mumbai: –

Mumbai Indians have the image of being slow starters. And this did not help them at all. Since the league got divided into 2 phases the team failed to gain momentum. When they got momentum in the first leg ended and by the time they got momentum in the second leg, it was too late. This slow starting habit might have possibly cost Mumbai the playoff spot as well. But the team cannot blame the pandemic! The Mumbai Indians strongly rely on the concept of momentum and this was one season where they couldn’t make the most of it.

Indian Batsmen Not Performing in Most Part: –

Hardik Pandya did not bowl much but his contribution with the bat also was pretty average!

The season did not work very well altogether for the Mumbai Indians but it was majorly the batsmen who failed. Although the Mumbai Indians had several close games all of them were due to their bowlers performing exceptionally well. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Krunal Pandya, and Kieron Pollard failed to come to the party. SKY and Ishan did show form in the last game but by then it was very late. Kieron Pollard who assures you at least 3 victories with the bat couldn’t contribute enough apart from the game against Chennai in Delhi.
