Wanindu Hasaranga: Sri Lankan captain suspended for breaching code of conduct | SL vs AFG 3rd T20I Scorecard and Head to Head: Wanindu Hasaranga, the captain of Sri Lanka’s Twenty20 cricket team and the country’s second-best bowler in the ICC men’s player rankings, was handed a two-match suspension for his most recent violation of the code, which increased his total number of demerit points to five in 24 months. has vanished. behavior, for which he was given three demerit points and a 50% fine.
The ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, Article 2.13, which addresses “personal misconduct by a player, player support personnel, umpire or match referee during an international match,” was judged to have been violated by Hasaranga.
Hasaranga’s five demerit points were converted into two suspension points upon accumulation. This means that the player or player support worker will be banned for either one Test match or two ODIs or T20Is, whichever comes first. As a result, Hasaranga will be suspended from taking part in Sri Lanka’s first two T20 matches against Bangladesh next month.
The incident unfolded at the end of the third T20I between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in Dambulla when Hasaranga approached umpire Lyndon Hannibal to express criticism regarding a decision on a high full toss not being called a no-ball.
Afghan cricketer Rahmanullah Gurbaz has also been fined under ICC rules. In the same match, Gurbaz was fined 15 percent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
Rahmanullah was found to be in breach of Article 2.4 of the Code, which deals with “disobedience to an umpire’s instruction during an international match.”
Additionally, one demerit point has been added to Rahmanullah’s disciplinary record, which is his second offense within a period of 24 months taking his total demerit points to two.
The ban was imposed on Rahmanullah for changing the grip of his bat on the field despite repeated warnings against doing so.
Chris Broad of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees proposed penalties, which both players accepted after entering a guilty plea. Therefore, it was decided that a formal hearing was not necessary.
The charges were made by on-field umpires Lyndon Hannibal and Ravindra Wimalasiri, third umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge and fourth umpire Ranmore Martínez.
Sri Lanka won the three-match T20I series 2–1 as Afghanistan won the final T20I. Hasaranga was awarded the Player of the Series award for his all-round performance.
