The MI VS KKR game of the TATA IPL 2023 was fun-filled. One saw everything possible on the field. We saw Venkatesh Iyer getting a 100. We also saw the Mumbai bowlers bowling decently well. Further, we came across brilliant innings from Ishan Kishan. And lastly, we also saw Surya Kumar Yadav being himself, again. But post the match Suryakumar Yadav and Nitish Rana both were fined. It was due to their respective reasons. But what exactly were they? Here is an in-depth look:
Suryakumar Yadav fined for Slow Over Rate in TATA IPL 2023:
Suryakumar Yadav was fined a hefty 12 lakh Indian Rupees by the match referee and the BCCI for maintaining a slow-over rate against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The KKR batting innings almost took 2 hours to get over. This is what sparked a word about the over-rate.
The IPL rules have been altered to deal with over-rate issues. A rule says that if the overs are not bowled in the given stipulated time, a team must have one less fielder outside the circle for the remainder of the overs. But despite such a rule, the teams have taken over rates very lightly. This was Suryakumar’s first instance of the offense, hence he was only fined.
Suryakumar was the “Stand-In” captain as Rohit Sharma is dealing with a stomach bug. So, Rohit chose to come in as an “Impact Player” to only bat. But did not take the field while MI was bowling.
Nitish Rana Fined for Breaching Code of Conduct in TATA IPL 2023:
Nitish Rana on the other hand was fined 25% of his match fee for breaching the “code of conduct” of the TATA IPL 2023. In the MI VS KKR game of TATA IPL 2023, he got into a verbal banter with Hrithik Shokeen. Both the Delhi boys showed their aggressive nature. It was in the 9th over of the 1st innings.
After Hrithik Shokeen dismissed Nitish Rana, he gestured to the senior player to walk toward the pavilion. This did not go down well with Rana as he gave a few words back. Suryakumar Yadav and the umpires had to step in to keep the player away. It wasn’t the most pleasant scene in the gentleman’s game.
Hrithik Shokeen Fined:
Hrithik Shikeen on the other hand was fined 10% of his match fee. It was for the same instance during the MI VS KKR game in TATA IPL 2023. Hrithik did a Level 1 offense according to Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct. Both teams were also docked points in the PayTM fair play award. They are now ranked 9th and 10th in the “Fair Play Award” rankings.
