The Kolkata Knight Riders have appointed Nitish Rana in TATA IPL 2023 as their skipper. The motto of the IPL itself is “where talent meets opportunity”. This is exactly what happened in the case of Nitish Rana. His exceptional batting and being a great leader for the Delhi Ranji team have met with the opportunity of leading the Kolkata Knight Riders. We have previously seen very few instances of domestic Indian players being the skippers of their TATA IPL teams. Here is a look at all those instances:
Sanju Samson was Appointed As Captain of Rajasthan Royals in TATA IPL 2021:
Sanju Samson was given the responsibility to lead the Rajasthan Royals in TATA IPL 2021. He was leading an elite set of players. He was leading Jos Butler, Ravi Ashwin, and Yuzi Chahal. Leading such strong individuals requires the player to be a strong individual himself. Sanju’s performance improved on a personal level as well. While he was scoring 400 runs as a player in the previous seasons, he started averaging 500 runs a season ever since he got appointed as the skipper. Manoj Badale, the CEO of the RR team, was the one who decided to give the job to Sanju.
Shreyas Iyer Appointed as Captain of Delhi Capitals in TATA IPL 2019:
It was in 2019 that Shreyas Iyer was appointed the skipper of the Delhi Capitals. The Delhi Capitals took this step to secure the future of the Delhi team. Shreyas Iyer was associated with the national team back then and the Capitals shouldered the responsibility on him. Rishabh Pant is the current captain but Shreyas Iyer was the captain till he was associated actively with the team. He ensured an elite rise in the performance of the capitals. The Delhi Capitals played the TATA IPL 2020 final under his leadership.
Rohit Sharma Appointed Captain of the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2013:
When the Mumbai Indians had a tough time back in 2013, Ricky Ponting decided to drop himself and asked Rohit Sharma to hold the flag. Rohit Sharma never looked back since then. In 2013, he won 5 trophies for the Mumbai Indians. He has ruled over the IPL and has reigned supreme. He has a winning percentage of 55.24%. Sharma led amazingly strong individuals such as Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, Lasith Malinga, Hardik Pandya, and Mitchell Johnson. Leading is an art and Sharma has taught us a lot about it.
