The list of injuries and replacements in TATA IPL 2023 keeps getting longer and longer by the day. Johnson Charles is all set to join the convoy of the Kolkata Knight Riders as a replacement for Litton Das. Litton Das had to leave the team as the Bangladesh Cricket Board had asked Litton to play in the Bangladesh VS Ireland games which take place between 9 and 14th May. The two-time world champion Johnson Charles is set to join the Kolkata Knight Riders for the TATA IPL 2023 as a replacement player for Litton Das. Johnson Charles was in the news off-late when he had a dream game against South Africa. He got a very quick–fire hundred. This hundred was a part of the game that saw the record chase made by South Africa and also saw an amazing performance by Quinton De Kock.
Litton Das earlier was out of the tournament as he back to Bangladesh for a personal undisclosed reason. Now he will miss 3 games more, hence the KKR management has chosen to name the replacement. Johnson Charles was a part of the Darren Sammy-led West Indies teams in the 2012 and 2016 World Cups. He used to open the batting for those teams.
Johnson Charles Was Out of International Cricket for 6 years:
Post the 2016 victory, all the senior players had a payment dispute with the West Indies cricket board and these players parted ways with international cricket. One of these players was Johnson Charles. He chose to play freelance cricket all over the globe. Playing freelance cricket helped him gain a lot of experience in this format. The fact of the matter is that Charles may not have a very lucrative record with the bat but he is a big match player. He has 3 international 100s in the T20 format. In the 2016 semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup which was played at the Wankhede Stadium, he scored an all-important 50. He took West Indies home while they were chasing 191. In the 2012 final as well, he had a great game. When it matters the most, he comes to the party. Kolkata currently need a player of this form as they are looking to win games at any cost.
