IPL 2024: Latest updates on injuries of Indian star players before IPL season 17 and T20 World Cup: Indian Cricket Board BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has given an important update on several key Indian players who have been ruled out due to injuries.
Delhi Capitals captain, left-handed batsman Rishabh Pant, is set to end his long hiatus from cricket with a comeback for the upcoming Indian Premier League Season 17.
In the latest update, Jay Shah has revealed that if Rishabh can keep wickets effectively, then he could be included in India’s plans for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies.
“He is batting well, he is keeping well. We will declare him fit very soon,” Shah told PTI.
“If he can play the T20 World Cup for us, that will be a big thing for us.
“He is a big asset for us. If he can keep, he can play the World Cup. Let’s see how he does in the IPL.”
Pant suffered an injury to his right knee in a horrific accident in late 2022 that required ligament reconstruction surgery.
In other major updates, the possible return dates of fast bowler Mohammed Shami and batsman KL Rahul have also been identified. Shami is recovering from ankle surgery and did not play in the recent Test series against England.
He is confirmed to miss the IPL 2024 season and is likely to return only for the home series against Bangladesh in September. Due to this, he will also be out of the upcoming T20 World Cup. The fast bowler has not played a T20I since the last tournament in Australia in November 2022.
Meanwhile, Rahul missed the first Test against England before missing the rest of the match due to a quadriceps injury. He received treatment in London and is expected to play in the IPL in 2024.
“Shami’s surgery is done; he is back in India,” Shah said. “Shami’s return is likely for the home series against Bangladesh. KL Rahul needed an injection, he has started rehab and is at the NCA.”
