IND vs ENG: Sourav Ganguly advocated Rishabh Pant’s positive report, not possible to wear masks

IND vs ENG: Sourav Ganguly advocated Rishabh Pant’s positive report, not possible to wear masks.

IND vs ENG: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly backed the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant who has recently contracted the virus and is in isolation, and stated that the cricketer will be ready to play the first test.

Ganguly asserted that wearing masks all the time is physically not possible and the cricketers were on leave.

Team India reported two covid positive reports just before all the players started to regroup in Durham. Rishabh Pant along with throwdown specialist Dayanand Garani were tested covid positive.

Three other members including Wriddhiman Saha, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Bharat Arun were forced into 10 days of mandatory isolation following the UK government’s health protocols.

The BCCI president said that the rules in the UK have changed and asking players to put on masks all the time was not a feasible idea.

“We have seen the Euro Championship and Wimbledon in England. Rules have changed (with crowds being allowed inside venues). They were on leave and it’s physically impossible to wear masks all the time,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by News 18.

Ganguly along with other BCCI officials is currently in the visit of Oman’s Muscat and UAE, to check the preparations and grounds for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

The former cricketer is confident that Rishabh Pant and others will be back with the squad in time and will be part of the first test against England, starting August 4.

“No worries. They will be fine,” Ganguly told the website.

“I don’t interfere in these matters. Team management will decide this,” said Sourav Ganguly on being asked who will open alongside Rohit Sharma in the Test as Shubman Gill is injured.
