ICC T20 World Cup 2021 Groups: The day for which most of the India-Pakistan fans have waited, arch-rivals India and Pakistan are all set to face each other as ICC puts both the teams in the same group ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday announced the groups in a lead up for its flagship T20 event, which will be staged in UAE and Oman, starting October 17.

India and Pakistan along with New Zealand and Afghanistan are placed in Group 2 of the T20 World Cup 2021.

Defending champions West Indies, Australia, England and South Africa are placed in the first Group.

The ICC said that the groups have been divided according to the ICC T20I team rankings as of 20 March 2021.

Two more teams will join each of the two groups after completion of the qualifying rounds of the T20 World Cup.

Eight teams including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Namibia, Scotland and Oman will face each other to seal their places in the T20 World Cup.

Out of these eight teams, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are the automatic qualifiers while the other six teams will contest for the two left spots.

The BCCI officials along with top ICC office bearers reached Oman to check the grounds and the preparations for the world cup.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla marked their attendance in the ongoing visit to Oman.

Oman Cricket Chairman, Pankaj Khimji said, “It is a watershed moment for Oman Cricket to have BCCI and ICC officials here to announce the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.”

It will be the first time, Oman will conduct ICC matches.

Qualifying groups

Group A: Sri Lanka, Ireland, the Netherlands and Namibia

Group B: Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea and Oman

Super 12s

Group 1: England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies, A1 (Winner of Group A) and B2 (Runner-up of Group B).

Group 2: India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan, A2 (Runner-up of Group A) and B1 (Winner of Group B).
