The Kolkata Knight Riders have got one of the most negative news. Shreyas Iyer, their skipper has been ruled out of the TATA IPL 2023 due to a back injury. He had been struggling with the injury for a long time. He did have a few rehabilitation camps at the NCA, but it is said that he must undergo surgery this time around.
Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in the first 3 games. He joined the team for the last match and was ruled out again as his back was giving a niggle. Shreyas Iyer Ruled out of TATA IPL 2023:
Shreyas Iyer, the expected skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders has been ruled out of the TATA IPL 2023. This adds to the vows of the Kolkata Knight Riders camp which has already been struggling with limited player availability and poor squad balance. They are now another batter short.
Shreyas Iyer has missed out on a lot of cricket. After being one of India’s best white-ball batters last year, he has struggled to find form due to his absence from regular cricket. He was initially ruled out from the India VS Sri Lanka ODI series due to a back injury. He further missed out on the 3 BGT test matches as well.
He was recalled for the last game in Ahmedabad but was taken off the field as he complained of a niggle in his lower back. It is said, that he will now have to undergo surgery to get rid of the recurring issue.
Suryakumar Yadav gets Opportunity in Absence of Iyer from National Team:
Suryakumar Yadav is expected to get a longer run in the absence of Shreyas Iyer. Surya’s last 10 ODI innings have seen him cross the 30-run mark only once. But the absence of Shreyas has given him a blessing in disguise.
This is what Rohit Sharma had to say about Suryakumar Yadav’s extended run in the ODI team, “We don’t know about Iyer’s return at this time. There is a spot available, and Surya has shown a lot of potential in white-ball cricket. I have said many times before that guys with a potential need to be given a long run. Of course, he knows that he needs to do it better in the slightly longer formats of the game as well.”
Rohit further added, “Right now he has got the chance because someone is injured or someone is not available. That is not ideal. After being given a consistent run, if you realize, runs are not coming or he is looking uncomfortable, then we’ll start thinking about it.”
