SA20 2023: T20 is the modern-day evolution of the game of cricket, and cricketing nations from around the world are holding domestic tournaments to improve the standards of their domestic players by sharing a platform with international greats.

Many countries around the world now host their domestic T20 leagues, such as the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is the biggest of the kind, followed by the Big Bash League (BBL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), T20 Blast (England), which is the oldest of the kind, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the Lankan Premier League (LPL), and many more.

Among all these nations, South Africa is one of the most formidable cricketing nations in the world, and they would in no way want to lag in holding a T20 league under their cricket board. Previously, South Africa hosted a tournament called Pro T20, which did not last long, but this year many Indian investors showed interest in the South African 20-20 league (SA20). This resulted in the beginning of the SA20 league, with its first edition being held this year in 2023

This is the first edition of the SA20, which will have six different teams representing six different cities in South Africa. The teams resemble IPL franchises in names and owners. The six teams are:

  • Joburg Super Kings
  • Pretoria Capitals
  • MI Cape Town
  • Paarl Royals
  • Durban Super Giants
  • Sunrisers Eastern Cape
