Ravi Ashwin terms RTM Card an unfair rule

Ravi Ashwin recently led Dindigul Dragons to lift the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024 title and won the Man of the Match award in the final. He ended up taking nine wickets with the ball and scoring 252 runs with the bat to show his worth as an all-rounder.

He also led the team pretty well and took Dindigul Dragons to their maiden title. Ravi Ashwin has been part of Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League since 2022 and has made impacts with his performances.

However, with the mega auction coming up ahead of the IPL 2025, there are chances that he might be released by the franchise. Meanwhile, the veteran off-spinner talked about the mega auction.

IPL 2025: Ravi Ashwin calls the RTM card unfair against a player at the auction

In a video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Ravi Ashwin talked about the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League and the mega auction. He spoke on the RTM card rule and called it unfair for the players. Notably, the RTM card rule was scrapped by the BCCI during the 2022 mega auction. But after the recent meeting between the BCCI and IPL franchises, this rule is set to comeback.

However, according to Ashwin, it is unfair to the player. He elaborated it and said, “There is nothing more unfair for a player than RTM. Because how has the RTM rule been so far?” Ravi Ashwin said that a player doesn’t get the actual value, and the franchise will not get into bid after the base price.

IPL 2025: What is RTM Card rule?

The RTM (Right to Match) card rule allows a team to resign the released player at the auction. The franchise can match the bid that the player got during the auction and can resign it for their team. This option of RTM card is only given during the mega auction.

As reported by Cricbuzz, the BCCI is likely to allow a maximum of six retentions to all ten teams, including RTM cards. For example, if a team retains 4 players, then they can use two RTM cards for the released players, but total retentions are six.
