Muttiah Muralitharan lambasted Angelo Mathews & Kusal Parera over pay disputes with Sri Lanka Cricket.

Former Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has criticised several senior cricketers of Sri Lanka for keeping their long-standing contracts disputes alive with the Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC).

As reported earlier, several cricketers of the country refused to sign the performance-based contracted system introduced by the Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) after seeing a decline in the performance of Sri Lanka in international cricket.

The country has seen a drastic decline in its cricketer’s performances in the recent past. The extent of the decline is such that Sri Lanka will have to play the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 qualifiers in order to play the World Cup.

The cricketers stated that the main reason behind their refusal to sign the contracts is lack of transparency, however, Muralitharan states that the dispute began as a couple of senior cricketers were paid less in the annual contracts due to their poor performances.

“This year we think they don’t need a central contract, we can go with tour contracts,” Murali told Hiru TV.

While most of the Sri Lankan cricketers agreed to sign the contracts ahead of India vs Sri Lanka limited-overs series, a couple of senior cricketers who are not the part of India series have still refrained.

Muttiah Muralitharan, who is the leading wicket-taker in the test cricket with 800 scalps, said that the senior cricketers didn’t allow the youngsters sign central contracts proposed by the board because of their pay-cut.

The legendary spinner further said that the cricketers did not accept the contracts when the board itself asked them, now they will not get central contracts.

The newly introduced payment system in Sri Lanka will benefit the performing assets of the country and the non-performing ones will see a steady decline in their prices.
