Mohd. Shami is likely to miss the first two games of Test Series Against England- Reports: A Huge Setback for the Indian Team ahead of a crucial five-match test series against England as Mohd. Shami is likely to be unavailable for the first two games because of the ankle injury. However, It is still not clear that he will play all the games and even the squad is yet to be announced by the BCCI.
Mohd. Shami was part of the test team in South Africa’s tour but later for the second test, he was replaced by Avesh Khan as he is still recovering from an ankle injury. Shami hasn’t yet got the clearance from the medical team to play International cricket but it is expected that he will be in the squad whether he is fully fit or not.
Mohd. Shami’s Absence Impact on Team India:
The Absence of Mohd. Shami in this test series might put the Indian Team on the back-foot but still, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohd. Siraj will be in the team and both the players have performed exceptionally in the two-match test series against South Africa. If we look at Indian Conditions, the spinners are more effective than the pacers, which will give the Indian Team an upper hand over England.
India and England will be playing a five-match test series, which is scheduled to start from January 25 to March 11, 2024. Indian Team will have an upper hand over England as they will be playing at their home conditions and If we look at past records then, India has dominated England on home soil.
The Five-Match Test Series between both teams is very crucial for the ICC World Test Championship 2023-2025 Cycle as the winning team will get a good position in the WTC Points Table. Currently, India is present at the top position in the WTC 2023-25 Points Table whereas England is present at 8th position.
However, If the Indian Team wins this test series then they will strengthen their position in the WTC Points Table and might fix their spot for the ICC World Test Championship 2023-2025 Final. Team India has qualified in the last two ICC WTC Finals and now, it is expected that they will do the same for this cycle as well.
