KL Rahul has taken a big injury in the game against RCB. He took the injury while fielding. The wicket-keeper batter injured himself once while doing a slide in the field which was further aggravated by a mis-footing while chasing a ball to the fence. Since then KL Rahul was taken off and the injury was so severe that he had to be walked off the field with the help of the physios. KL did not come out to open the innings in the following innings. Here is an in-depth look at what has gone through post his injury:
KL Rahul Likely to Miss Out on WTC Final:
KL Rahul’s injury and its updates are yet to be revealed by the BCCI. But by the first look of it, many media houses have claimed that he is expected to miss out on 6 to 7 weeks of on-field work. KL Rahul has left the convoy of the Lucknow Super Giants and has been taken to Mumbai for scans. Post the scans he will move to the NCA for rehabilitation under the BCCI Medical team. The workload of these important players was to be managed and this injury shows a failure in that.
KL Rahul was in the scheme of things for the WTC final. In the absence of Rishabh Pant, he was expected to take the gloves. But the Indian cricket team will now have to look for new options. KS Bharat doesn’t look supremely confident with the bat and the only other option is Ishan Kishan.
WTC Final to be played on the 7th of June:
The WTC final is to be played on the 7th of June. The first set of players will leave on the 23rd of May for the same while the next convoy will go on the 29th of May. KL Rahul needs at least a month of recovery, and he is almost certain to miss out. The BCCI has already named a 15-man squad but there are 2 expected changes in the squad. Jaydev Unadkat has also injured himself in the Lucknow Giants’ practice session. He tripped on one of the ropes that is attached to the nets. He has an external wound that will take 6 weeks to recover.
On the other hand, Shardul Thakur and Umesh Yadav of the Kolkata Knight Riders are also nursing injuries. They are expected to recover in time but the BCCI will send a few cover players. In the list of cover players names like Yashaswi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been considered. Any further injuries will render India’s plans for the WTC final poor.
