The Delhi Capitals is not having a good time in the absence of Rishabh Pant this season. The team is on a 5-game losing streak and it is yet to get its first victory of the season. Due to the team’s poor performance, coach Ricky Ponting is under immense scrutiny. On paper, the team looks very solid. But when it comes to the performances, it is lagging Their next game is on April 20 against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The opposition is tough, but Delhi will be looking to overcome it. Here is an in-depth look at what has gone wrong for the Delhi Capitals:
Delhi Capitals 5 Match Losing Streak:
|1||Lucknow Super Giants||LSG won by 50 runs.||Ekana Stadium, Lucknow|
|2||Gujarat Titans||Gujarat won by 6 wickets.||Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi|
|3||Rajasthan Royals||RR won by 57 runs.||Barsapara Stadium, Guwahati|
|4||Mumbai Indians||Mumbai Indians won by 6 wickets.||Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi|
|5||Royal Challengers Bangalore||RCB won by 23 runs.||Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore|
Failure of the Openers has cost the Delhi Capitals:
The Capitals’ engine room is the two batters at the top. Prithvi Shaw and David Warner. Warner has the runs under his belt but the runs are not impactful. Prithvi on the other hand, was supposed to have a “dream season” which is turning into a dreadful season.
He has scores of 12, 7, 0, 1, and so on. They do not have a lot of backup options as well. They can try Manish Pandey as an opener or maybe Rilee Rossouw to open, but that will not be the ideal thing to do. Maybe an extended rope to Shaw can help. The player has immense potential and can turn things around for Delhi.
Lower Middle-Order Gaps:
Their lower middle order has just one batter. Axar Patel it is. But he cannot take all the responsibility for himself. He needs support. Patel is having one of the best seasons with the bat but the lack of support has ensured that his performances go in vain. They do not have a lot of options in this case as well. One option can be to ask Rovmann Powell to bat at number 7 or number 6 while playing as an impact player. Axar Patel has scored 130 runs so far in the 5 games at a strike rate of 164!
Lack of Form of Fast Bowlers has Cost the Delhi Capitals:
The Delhi Capitals relied heavily on their pace battery. But Khaleel and Nortje are both out of form. They have led runs at more than 10 and over in multiple games. Khaleel has not been given his full quota at times. Nortje on the other hand is failing to find the right areas. The batters are seemingly getting used to the pace. They are using his pace against him as they just intend to time the ball and not attack it vigorously. Nortje has an economy of 9.3 this season and has got just 2 wickets. A solution to this can be Mustafizur Rahman. DC can give him opportunities.
