The Indian Cricket Team’s worst nightmare has come true. Jasprit Bumrah, the spearhead of the Indian fast bowling unit has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. Many news outlets, including Sportsdanka, had previously reported about him “likely” being out of the tournament. The reason is Bumrah’s back injury which he suffered in India’s tour of England in 2022. His back had got multiple stress fractures and the rehabilitation process seems to be not very successful. Here is an in-depth look at the report:
Jasprit Bumrah Officially Ruled Out:
The official statement released by the BCCI is as follows, “The BCCI Medical team has ruled out Team India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad. The decision was taken following a detailed assessment and in consultation with the specialists. Bumrah was initially ruled out from the ongoing Mastercard 3-match T20I series against South Africa due to a back injury. The BCCI will be naming a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah in the squad for the marquee tournament soon.”
Jasprit Bumrah Injury:
The injury is the same back injury that has been troubling Bumrah for a very long time. Jasprit has a very unique action. He makes use of his back to generate the extra pace and bounce. He bends the back more than a usual bowler which makes him susceptible to back injuries. And this is exactly what has taken place. He was earlier ruled out from the ODI series in the India tour of England, then he was ruled out from the T20I series against South Africa and now the unfortunate news of him missing the ICC T20 World Cup has been officially given.
Possible Replacements:
The possible replacements for Jasprit Bumrah in the Playing XI are very few. And a player of Bumrah’s stature cannot be found in the country or even on the globe. So, the Indian cricket team will have to mix and match its combinations to make the best possible bowling unit out of the resources that it has. Here is a look at the names that come to mind:
Name | Job |
Arshdeep Singh | Bowl one over in the powerplay, one in the middle, and 2 at the death. |
Deepak Chahar | One of the top options, bowl 2 overs in the powerplay and 2 at the death. |
Mohammed Shami | Bowl maximum overs in the powerplay and at least 1 at the death. |
Umesh Yadav | Bowl maximum overs in the powerplay and the middle overs. Don’t risk him with death overs. |
