Viacom18 has dropped a major hint at merging Jio Cinema with Hotstar, which means the merger would lead to the streaming of the rights of the IPL to Hotstar.

The Hotstar was among the first Indian streaming apps that had the broadcasting rights owned for the Indian Premier League, as Star Sports would also have the TV telecasting rights.

However, in recent editions, the Star Sports network has restored its telecasting TV rights, though the online broadcasting rights have passed onto Jio Cinema.

Viacom18, one of the joint business ventures from Mukesh Ambani, often has the idea to merge the two major sports broadcasting rights in India. After the merger, Hotstar will not only broadcast the IPL live but also all of India’s home matches and domestic cricket matches.
