Since Ricky Ponting took over as the head coach of the Punjab Kings, he was assigned to pick a favourable set of support staff for himself in other departments as well. Ponting replaced Bayliss, the coach who led Sri Lanka to the finals of the 2011 World Cup, while next in 2019 he led the England national team to World Cup triumph.

Ponting joined the Punjab Kings just a few days after he parted ways with the former franchise of the Delhi Capitals. He has likely announced the retention of Brad Haddin, who will serve as both his assistant coach and batting consultant.

Punjab Kings replaced the likes of Trevor Bayliss, the coach who once won the IPL with the Kolkata Knight Riders, just a year later after Ponting won the first IPL with the Mumbai Indians as their mentor. Ponting is eager and has shown desperation to coach the Punjab Kings and lead them to their first-ever IPL title.

Ricky Ponting took his call over to retain the likes of Brad Haddin in his coaching staff. Haddin, who served as the Punjab Kings’ assistant coach under Trevor Bayliss, will continue to do so under the reign of Ponting as well.

While also the likes of Sunil Joshi, the spin bowling coach for the Punjab Kings, have been retained. Sanjay Bangar, the experienced head of cricket, has also been released from the three-year contract.

James Hopes to Join the Punjab Kings from the Capitals

James Hopes played the IPL 2008 for the Punjab Kings, as the former Australian teammate of Ricky Ponting rejected the contract extension from the Delhi Capitals as he decided to join the Punjab Kings for the same.

The inclusion of James Hopes would probably be in the role of a bowling coach, as this would indicate the probable exit of Charl Langeveldt, who previously held the role of pace-bowling coach in the side.

Ponting is yet to finalize the retention list for IPL 2025

The best player in the Punjab Kings squad can undoubtedly be the World Cup-winning left-arm Indian pacer, Arshdeep Singh. The Punjab Kings have confirmed or not even hinted towards the retention of Arshdeep Singh.

The Punjab management might look towards their heavily talented uncapped bench, who were invincible batters in the last season, as either Ashutosh Sharma or Shashank Sharma can be retained for a minor INR 4 crore.
