The Punjab Kings (PBKS), earlier started their IPL campaign as Kings XI Punjab from the very first inaugural season of 2008. They have located the Punjab Cricket Association Cricket Ground in Mohali as their official home ground, though they have occasionally played at Dharamshala as well.
The team has been the powerhouse of intensified talent, while on several occasions, however, none of these instances have been able to secure victory in the competition. They have reached the final only on one occasion in 2014, though they have not had an exemplary record in the history of the IPL.
From the very first skipper Yuvraj Singh to the legendary Sri Lankan batsman Kumara Sangakkara, legends like Gilchrist, George Bailey, and David Miller have led the Kings, with Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul being the greatest among Indian skippers.
The management continues to search for the ideal leader to guide them to their first IPL title. In the 2025 IPL mega auction, the team management bought Shreyas Iyer for a record-breaking price of Rs. 26.75 crores, making him one of the most expensive buys in the history of the tournament, only before Rishabh Pant, the former Delhi Capitals teammate, surpassed him as the costliest player in the history of the IPL. Shreyas Iyer was the captain of the IPL-winning KKR side in 2024.
Shreyas Iyer, who is widely recognised for his ability to play several match-winning knocks, Iyer is expected to climb in his stature in Indian cricket, as he is of immense value to the franchise both as a skipper as well as a fine batter. Iyer is now being taken under consideration for potential roles as India’s skipper.
