IPL 2025 MI vs GT Match Highlights: GT ends Mumbai Indians' winning streak at rain-affected Wankhede; Climb to the top of the Points Table
Nervy MI lose winning streak to GT

MI vs GT Match Highlights: The Mumbai Indians head to Wankhede after maintaining a 6-match winning streak that has taken the 5-time champions from the bottom of the table to the top four teams eyeing a playoff spot in IPL 2025. The Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, might have had a mixed record in the last 5 games, but they still remain the favorites against the team led by their former skipper.

Wankhede opted for the 8th pitch; the track was earlier used in high-scoring games against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Chennai Super Kings. The RCB vs MI game marked a huge 400+ runs over the two innings, while MI chased a target of 177 in the blink of an eye against archrivals CSK.

Considered a fine ground to chase targets, the Gujarat Titans opted to bowl first after skipper Shubman Gill won the toss against the former skipper Hardik Pandya. Let’s have a brief trivia about the undying action between the two teams competing for one spot in the playoffs of this IPL.

The Mumbai Indians were put to bat first on their home ground, as the two MI openers came after a century stand against the Rajasthan Royals in the last game. However, Mohammed Siraj got his bait perfect against Ryan Rickelton, as the Protea wicket-keeper was dismissed second ball by a ball shaping away from the left-hander.

Rohit Sharma, despite his good form, could not handle his weakness to left-hand seamers as he got out once again, looking to take on Arshad Khan. Suryakumar Yadav, the orange cap holder, is once again among the run-scorers for the Mumbai Indians, this time building the innings alongside Will Jacks, who got to his first fifty of the season.

However, dismissed in consecutive overs, SKY and Jacks were sent back by the two GT spinners. After breaking the big partnership, Mumbai never seemed to be back on track with their innings. Skipper Hardik Pandya seems to be loyal to his old team, as once again, he got out without troubling the scorers much, and he was immediately followed by Tilak Varma.

MI were 6 down at a phase where most teams look to accelerate during their batting innings; however, with Naman Dhir and Corbin Bosch, two new batters at the crease, the GT bowlers looked too fierce to face for the duo. Corbin Bosch looked comprehensive, hitting some sixes in the 20th over of the game. MI could manage only to cross 150 and relied heavily on the bowlers for the first time this season.

MI vs GT Match Highlights: Boult-Bumrah-Ashwani try their hearts out, but Coetzee finishes it off in style for GT

Gujarat Titans batted under tough conditions with rain interruptions reigning and brisk wind speed, as Gujarat Titans lost their most in-form batter, Sai Sudarshan, this early in the powerplay for the first time. Trent Boult struck early, and the pacers did a very good job of restricting the Gujarat Titans’ top order, but the target seemingly being too low cost MI big time.

The Titans changed the game with the arrival of Sherfane Rutherford, the big hitter who took the Gujarat Titans over the DLS par score with two colossal overs against Jacks and Ashwani Kumar.

However, rain stalled after some time, giving the Mumbai Indians some hope, though with Gill and Rutherford still at the crease, the game looked very one-sided in favour of the Gujarat Titans. Though MI never looked back in the game, Jasprit Bumrah, probably the best under pressure conditions, dismissed Titans skipper Gill with a picture-perfect in-swinger.

However, with Rutherford and the new batter Sharukh Khan on the field, who has also been a fine striker of the white ball, 43 looked chasable from all sides for GT. The BoultBumrah duo once again worked their magic for the Mumbai Indians and somewhat looked to drag them into the game, dismissing Rutherford in the very next over. However, with very few runs on the board, nothing could have relieved the Mumbai Indians of pressure.

Boult and Bumrah finished their respective spells with figures of 2/22 and 2/19 from their 4 overs each. It was now on Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatiya to chase the remaining few runs. Though Ashwani pulled off a stunning over before rain again interrupted, GT were left to chase 15 in the last over to be bowled by Deepak Chahar. Chahar ruined his chances with a no-ball, and GT finished the last-ball thriller with a single.
