Mumbai Indians finished at 10th (bottom) position in the IPL 2024 Points Table after the league stage. Hardik Pandya was leading the Mumbai Indians after getting traded from the Gujarat Titans and sacked former skipper Rohit Sharma in the IPL 2023. Hardik Pandya will be retained by the Mumbai Indians for sure before the IPL 2025 mega auction as he is the current skipper of the team and MI’s team management made Hardik their new skipper while looking for the future as Rohit hasn’t performed well in the last few seasons.
Mumbai Indians have played a total of 14 matches in the IPL 2024 League Stage under the leadership of Hardik Pandya. Out of which, Mumbai Indians won only four games whereas they lost 10 matches but some of the matches they lost were very close. Mumbai Indians haven’t played collective cricket in the latest season which led MI to have poor performance throughout the tournament.
Mumbai Indians (MI) have lots of quality players like Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kisan, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Tilka Verma. Therefore, It is going to be very tough for MI’s team management to pick the four best players in the retention list. As per the reports, Some of the franchises want a minimum of eight retentions before the IPL 2025 mega auction however there is no official confirmation made by the IPL council.
4 Players Whom Mumbai Indians Will Retain Before the IPL 2025 Mega Auction:
Hardik Pandya will be the first choice in the retention list before the IPL 2025 mega auction as he is the current captain of Mumbai Indians. But, Hardik Pandya failed to perform in the IPL 2023 both as skipper and player. Hardik Pandya played a total of 14 matches in the last season and he has scored only 216 runs at an average of 18.00 including 0 half-century.
It didn’t stop here, Hardik Pandya was almost in all matches for Mumbai Indians and he was able to get only 11 wickets but the economy rate was around 10.75, which is very high in the IPL 2023. Hardik needs to focus on his game first then he can set an example for the other team players to perform well in the tournament.
After Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kisan, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah will be on the MI’s Retention list however Tilak Verma and Tim David will also have a strong chance to get retained. The Former Skipper Rohit Sharma is most likely to be retained by the Mumbai Indians before the IPL 2025 mega auction as he has not performed well in the past and team management is looking for the future.
However, MI might buy Rohit Sharma in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction but it is going to be very challenging for them as other franchises will be looking aggressively for one of the best IPL captains.
