IPL 2024: Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is tentatively scheduled to start on March 22 and end on 26 May 2024: The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) is tentatively scheduled to start on March 22 and end on May 26, although these dates have not yet been officially confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
A recent report suggests that the tournament will be hosted entirely in India despite it being an election year. The decision reflects BCCI’s confidence in hosting the IPL within the country, even though the tournament has been moved to South Africa (2009) and UAE (2014) in the past. Notably, the 2019 IPL was held entirely in India, culminating with Mumbai Indians’ victory.
The IPL schedule is closely linked to the announcement of Lok Sabha election dates by the Election Commission of India. The BCCI has reportedly received assurances from international cricket boards that their players will be available till the conclusion of the tournament.
However, due to the proximity of the IPL finale with the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States starting on June 1, the possibility of some players leaving early cannot be ruled out.
Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024
Apart from IPL, Women’s Premier League (WPL) is also a part of the cricket calendar. The second season of WPL is reported to be from 22 February to 17 March.
This season is expected to follow the Twin City model, with Bengaluru and Delhi hosting the matches. An official announcement regarding the WPL schedule is expected in the coming weeks. It is noteworthy that the schedule of IPL and WPL is linked to each other and depends on the dates of Lok Sabha elections.
