IPL 2024: Big news is waiting for the cricket fans as Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is just around the corner. Reports suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is actively considering the possibility of organizing the IPL 2024 in the near future.
Adding to the intrigue, there are talks about the possibility of holding this season overseas. The driving force behind this thought is the impending Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024. Despite these discussions, the BCCI is yet to officially confirm any details.
Reputed news outlet ‘Aaj Tak’ has released information indicating that BCCI is considering organizing IPL 2024 in the coming months. The decision depends on the identification of a suitable time frame, which may be affected by the timing of the Lok Sabha elections.
The possible timeline being discussed is that IPL 2024 will start in March, with the conclusion in the first or second week of May. However, the current focus of the cricket world remains on the impending World Cup 2023, and any final decision will be taken only after the conclusion of this important event.
Apart from the possible haste of the upcoming IPL season, there is also talk about the possibility of holding it overseas. Nevertheless, the primary priority is to retain India as the host country.
History is witness that IPL has moved beyond Indian shores in the past as well. In 2009, the tournament was hosted in South Africa due to the Lok Sabha elections. Similarly, during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, a portion of the IPL matches were played in the United Arab Emirates, while the remaining matches took place in India.
The Grand Finale of IPL 2014 took place in Bengaluru, where Kolkata Knight Riders achieved a resounding 3-wicket victory over Punjab Kings. Significantly, the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are expected to be held in April and May.
