PBKS SWOT Analysis: The Punjab Kings have never proved to convince their fans with their performance and have always been a low-profile team. The Kings had their best season in 2014, when they qualified for the finals but lost the final to the Knight Riders. The Punjab Kings did not do well in the last season either and would hope to do well in the 16th edition of the IPL.

Strengths

The biggest strength of the IPL franchise is its strong big hitters. PBKS unlike other teams does not comprise big hitters only down the order, they have players throughout their batting order who mostly have an aggressive intent in batting. Players like Bairstow, Livingstone, Shahrukh Khan and Jitesh Sharma are all powerful hitters with healthy strike rates.

Their other strength lies in their domestic players, who are in good form. Punjab batter Prabhsimran Singh has exhibited a blazing performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Jitesh due to his eminent domestic presence was offered the spot of a wk-batsman in the Indian National side. Young bowler Arshdeep has shown his prominence playing for India in the World Cup.

Weaknesses

Their biggest worry or concern is the shaky form of their skipper Shikhar Dhawan, Dhawan is an IPL veteran and the second-highest run-getter in IPL after Kohli. However, with age and growing years, Dhawan has failed in recent years and got no success these days.

They lack a proper spin bowling option other than Rahul Chahar, even Chahar has not shown any convenient performances lately.

Opportunities

This is a big tournament and probably the last chance for Dhawan to get his way back to the Indian Odi squad for the 50-overs World Cup in 2023. With Gills’s extravagant form in the Odis and no such spot left for Dhawan, he has to produce something special to feature probably in his final World Cup before retirement.

Arshdeep Singh who is currently not given much prominence in the Odi squad can also seal his spot in the Odi team alongside the T20s by leaving a mark with his game in the IPL.

Sam Curran who is the biggest buy in the history of the IPL is making his comeback to the Indian Premier League and after having a wonderful 2022, he would look to have a promising season in the IPL too.

Threats

The biggest threat to the Punjab Kings is their dependable player Jonny Bairstow’s injury. Bairstow who missed the T20 World Cup also due to his injury has not shown any signs of recovery as of yet. Bairstow’s absence would be a matter of concern for the Kings as he is one of the pillars of the PBKS batting lineup.

Another Englishman and PBKS hero of the last season Livingstone pulled out of domestic T20s in the BBL to focus on his test debut. His recent loss of touch from limited-overs cricket can cause his downfall in the shorter format and that would be a problem for PBKS.
