IPL 2021 just completed and people started talking about IPL 2022, particularly about the mega auction. As we all know BCCI announced that this will be the last Mega Auction and the whole world is looking for the outcome of this biggest Auction.

The mega auction is likely to be held in the second week of January 2022. All eight existing teams have already submitted their retained candidates list to the BCCI. In addition to the 8 existing teams, IPL 2022 will see the participation of 2 new teams – Lucknow and Ahmedabad.

Due to the IPL retention rules, some of the biggest names in the IPL have been released by the IPL franchises. KL Rahul, David Warner, Rashid Khan, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, and many other names were not retained by the existing teams in the IPL and these players will now go under the hammer during the auction upcoming IPL 2022 mega.

Date and time of IPL 2022 mega auction

The BCCI is yet to announce the IPL 2022 mega auction date and time. However, it is reported that the auction will take place in the first week of January 2022.

IPL 2022 Retention Rules for New Team

Two new franchises have the option of targeting 3 (2 domestic and 1-overseas players) – from December 1 to December 25. Lucknow and Ahmedabad are allowed to select players from a team of players released by 8 franchises.

Note that: According to InsideSport, BCCI has asked the Lucknow team not to sign any player as Team Ahmedabad is under investigation because its owner CVC is said to be affiliated with betting companies.
