A major victory for India in the end. When you saw the pitch before the toss, you knew there would be damage from the new ball, but didn’t expect 9/5 within 3 overs. Arshdeep and Chahar ended the game there by swinging the ball to both sides

India won the toss and decided to bowl first. Deepak Chahar and Arshdeep Singh would have been ruled out of the series against Australia due to injuries. But he kept the confidence shown by Rohit Sharma by breaking South Africa’s back in the first four overs itself. Deepak Chahar and Arshdeep set South Africa’s first 15 balls on fire as they broke the top-order and reduced them to 9/5 in 2.3 overs, leaving the visitors delighted. But most of the South African batsmen could not hear the sound of the waving ball, which kept India’s bowlers restless. Then Markram came and took the innings in his hand for a while so that there would be some kind of control over the moving ball, but that too was caught in Harshal’s first over. Parnell remained at one end and Keshav Maharaj contributed 41 runs off 35 balls. With which South Africa 106/8 managed to reach.

South African bowlers Kagiso Rabada, Wayne Parnell and Enrique Nortje took advantage of the fastest conditions in Thiruvananthapuram to give Rohit Sharma 0 and Virat Kohli 3 runs to stabilize the Indian innings. South Africa had made up its mind like the first Indian fast bowlers. Did the same with better results. South Africa could have made the match difficult for India despite the low target, Suryakumar and Rahul continued the chase and dashed South Africa’s intention. Gave India a comfortable victory

Brief scores: South Africa 106/8 in 20 overs (Keshav Maharaj 41; Arshdeep Singh 3-32, Deepak Chahar 2-24) lost to India 110/2 in 16.4 overs (KL Rahul 51, Suryakumar Yadav 50; Kagiso Rabada 1/16 by eight wickets.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh said : I thought what to say if I get the man of the match award and got a little excited (when he was eager to come and talk). DC bhai (Deepak Chahar) set the tone in the first over and we knew there was a lot of help from the surface. The plan was to keep it simple and bowl in the right areas. I enjoyed Miller’s wicket as I thought he was expecting an outswinger but I bowled an inswinger instead. The thought was to get his (Maharaj) wicket but he played well and the plan could have been something else. I am fresh, had a good training session at NCA and hope to continue to perform like this.

Deepak Chahar and Arshdeep Singh’s bowling edge:

India pacers Deepak Chahar and Arshdeep Singh talked about the new ball for South Africa in the first T20I in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bring the visiting team. Chahar beautifully caught South African captain Temba Bavuma (0) in the very first over. He bowled three out-swingers and then took the right-hander to dodge his stumps. Arshdeep, returning from rest, started with an over of three overs. Left-arm fast bowler Quinton de Kock was hit by a big fish. Arshdeep’s next two balls were not playable. He was dismissed by Riley Rossouw and then David Miller and in the next over he went on to a hat-trick. But did not get success. In the third over, Deepak Chahar dismissed the dangerous Tristan Stubbs for a first-ball duck when the right-hander got the top edge to third man.

Indian captain said :

Rohit sharma : The wicket was difficult. You learn a lot from this kind of game. You understand what the team needs to do in tough situations. It’s nice to play this kind of game. We knew that seeing the grass on the pitch would give some advantage to the bowlers, but we didn’t expect it to help the entire 20 overs. It was still damp. Both the teams were in the match and the better performing team won the match. We started well, got 5 wickets in a short span of time and that was the turning point. Correct display of how to bowl (talking about Deepak Chahar and Arshdeep) when it is helpful for the fast bowlers. We knew it wouldn’t be easy. Conditions have to be respected. Lost two wickets and the partnership between KL and Surya took us home.

South Africa captain said:

Temba Bavuma: As a batting unit we failed to apply ourselves in those conditions. We didn’t expect the pitch to play like this. Yeah, we expected it to be spicy, but generally you’ll be able to hit through the line in this part of the world. Then the fast bowlers needed runs to defend. He tried to give his best and also supported the spinners. I thought we fought a good fight with the bat till late. This is a positive.

A new record for Suryakumar Yadav :

India were reduced to 17/2 in the seventh over in the first T20I against South Africa, with Yadav hitting two sixes in his first three balls to give the Indian innings a change of pace after a slow start. He scored 50 runs in 33 balls. Chasing the target, India remained unbeaten with three overs to spare. What makes his record even more astonishing is that Yadav scored these runs at a strike rate of over 180 and an average of over 40, with two sixes at the start of the innings, Yadav surpassing even Mohammad Rizwan of Pakistan and the most Made more records. Sixes in T20Is in any calendar year. Rizwan set his own record of 42 sixes in 2021, with Martin Guptill also hitting 41 sixes in 2021. Yadav has already taken his number of sixes to 45 in 2022, a record in all T20Is with Rizwan, three more months to widen the gap. While Rizwan hit 42 sixes in 26 innings, Suryakumar broke this record by batting five times less.
