IND vs ENG: James Anderson sets a big record in Dharamshala during India vs England Test Match: In the ongoing Test match between India and England, English bowler James Anderson took the precious record of his 700th wicket by dismissing Indian bowler Kuldeep Yadav while batting in Dharamshala on the morning of the third day of the fifth final Test of the ICC World Test Championship series.
The fast bowler started the Test with 698 wickets and reached 699 when he bowled out centurion Shubman Gill with a beautiful reverse swing.
He had to wait patiently for his milestone moment while the spinners dominated the rest of the second day. The next day, he took his 700th wicket by dismissing Kuldeep, caught behind for 30.
His first Test wicket came in 2003 against Zimbabwe at Lord’s, where he started his Test career by taking five wickets. Anderson had to play 184 more tests to enter the 700-club as the only fast bowler at the age of 41.
Throughout his nearly 21-year-long career, Anderson has continued to maintain distance between himself and others. Nathan Lyon, currently with 517 wickets, is the second-highest wicket-taker among active players.
Anderson is now not far from overtaking Shane Warne, who is at number 2 in terms of taking the most wickets in Tests.
On the first day of the Test, England came to bat first and was dismissed for 218 runs. R Ashwin, who was playing in his 100th Test match, added four wickets to lead the attack, while Kuldeep claimed five wickets.
The host team responded strongly with the bat and captain Rohit Sharma and Gill made a partnership of 171 runs for the second wicket. Both batsmen completed their centuries before England captain Ben Stokes, who returned to bowling after a long gap, clean-bowled Rohit.
Gill was the next batsman for India to take Anderson’s 699th Test wicket. India went to the stumps at 473/8 with a lead of 255.
On the third day, England quickly bowled out India for 477 runs. Anderson took the first wicket of the day, while Shoaib Bashir finished the innings with five wickets.
