IND vs AUS TEST MATCH: Virat Kohli is on Fire Scored Century again, Shreyas Iyer taken for scans during fourth Test

Virat Kohli

IND vs AUS TEST MATCH: On the fourth day of the fourth Test match between India and Australia, India had reached a strong position by scoring 400 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Virat Kohli had scored a century and was batting on 100, while Axar Patel was yet to open his account.

However, India lost the wicket of Srikar Bharat during the second session of the day’s play, as he was dismissed by Nathan Lyon after scoring 44 runs. Despite the setback, India was aiming to build a bigger lead in the match. Unfortunately, middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer was forced to leave the field and was taken to the hospital due to back trouble. His absence may impact India’s plans for the rest of the match.

To provide further context, Shreyas Iyer’s back injury has been a recurring problem that also caused him to miss the ODI series against New Zealand in January 2020. He had complained of similar discomfort after a series against Sri Lanka, and was sent to the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for precautionary measures before being cleared to participate in the current Test series against Australia.

In Iyer’s absence, India will need to continue their pursuit of eating away at Australia’s first innings lead, which was built on centuries from Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green in the fourth Test match. On the fourth day, opener Shubman Gill scored his second Test century, while Virat Kohli was also in good form, approaching his 28th Test century.
