IND vs AUS: Veteran Australian all-rounder, Cameron Green after being moved to New Zealand for further assessment which uncovered his lower spine injury, after his stress injury. Green might be missing the next six months of cricket if he undergoes surgery in his lower back.

Owing to his tall height and infused physique, Green often experiences the usual stress injuries to his back. The likes of previous Aussie as well as Kiwi players like Behrendorff, Pattinson, and other Kiwi quicks like Shane Bond and Matt Henry have previously had this arrangement of fixing screws and titanium cable fused to the lower back which helps them to prevent further occurrences of such stress or fractures.

This would indeed be a very major blow to the Aussies, as the likes of legendary Steve Smith are probably moving down the order from the position of an opening batter to a no.4 batter, as he has conveyed his decision to the skipper and the coach, Andrew McDonald.

“Cam has a unique defect in an adjacent area to the fracture that is believed to be contributing to the injury,” the statement said. “After thorough consultation, it was determined Cameron would benefit from the surgery to stabilise the defect and reduce the risk of future recurrence.”

Following Cameron Green’s exit the Aussies would be in trouble to bring in a new player in the role of the big West Australian. Travis Head, Australian white ball opener would probably be moved to the top of the order alongside Usman Khawaja as the new opening duo in red-ball cricket.

This would make void two places in the Aussie test side, as after Mitchell Marsh there is no red-ball all-rounder who can be brought into the no.5 or 6 position, to replace either Head or Green.

Among the players featuring in the Sheffield Shield, the likes of veteran Aussie domestic all-rounder, Beau Webster who also scored a century in the first inning of the first round of the Sheffield Shield might be included in the side as a backup replacement for Green.

Players like Marcus Stoinis have had this opportunity of Green’s unavailability, as Stoinis has been brought back into the Australian One-Day squad which will play against Pakistan after the CA announced the team for the tour.
